Herpes affects 80% of the Earth’s population. It has various forms and manifestations. In the past, herpes held the first position in the list of viruses, but – because of the gravity and complexity of HIV (the AIDS inflicting virus), this latter one moved to the first position in the ranking. The sexual revolution of 1950-1975 helped the dissemination of genital herpes.
Another form of herpes is the one acquired in the viral infections, by the type I virus (HSV 1). Yet another form of herpes is shingles (Zoster herpes), which may occur at a long time (several years) from the moment a patient was affected by chicken pox (varicella-zoster virus). Herpes is also caused by the EPSTEIN-BARR virus, the form of herpes being the infectious mononucleosis. Genital herpes is an infection caused by they type II virus (HSV2).
Herpes is a virus living in the cells of the bone marrow and it manifests when the immune system does not work within normal parameters. The genital herpes causes skin lesions in the genital area. In men, it manifests as watery blisters in the area of their penis and on their testicles, which – within a few days – turn into sores, before starting to heal. In women it develops in the area of the cervix, vagina and perineum. The manifestations of the disease may be accompanied by vaginal secretions, especially at the onset of the disease. Other symptoms are: high temperature and inflammation of the lymphatic nodules, pain during the sexual intercourse. HSV2 occurs periodically; normally, its manifestations last 5-7 days.
The oral types of herpes attack the skin, especially in the area of the mouth and the nose; it manifests in the form of blisters. Although a brief condition, this herpes may turn into a painful sore. The zoster herpes is caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV), the same that causes chicken pox. The presence and manifestations of the virus are in the form of blisters in the area of the chest and the abdomen. The pain manifests before the Zoster virus has triggered its lesions. The condition lasts from several days to several weeks.
