Tumefactions of the thyroid gland, the thyroid nodules are the most common disease of the endocrine system, affecting both men and women. In most cases they are benign tumors, but there is also a risk of malignization (in particular contexts).
Therefore a proper treatment is recommended, even in the case of the benign nodules, firstly because the nodules are formed when the endocrine system does not work properly and – by their presence – they worsen the already existing hormonal disorders. For instance, if the nodule secretes too many thyroid hormones, hyperthyroidism will set in.
The thyroid gland secretes thyroxin (T4), and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones control metabolism, facilitate the oxygen access into cells; they regulate body temperature and cardiac rhythm; they influence the tonus of the striate and the smooth muscles, digestion, concentration of calcium in the bones and concentration of cholesterol in the body. That is why the thyroid disorders also have bad effects upon the physiological mechanisms and the entire organic activity.
Generally, the thyroid nodules do not generate symptoms that may alarm the patient; they may be even diagnosed accidentally, on the occasion of investigations for other diseases. The thyroid hyper secretion causes episodes of agitation and nervousness, cardiac arrhythmia, sudden loss of weight without an obvious reason and increased peristalsis of the thick intestine, manifested by soft stools. Thyroid hypofunction causes significant weight gain, asthenia, constipation, difficulty memorizing, concentrating and refreshing the information.
Depending on their structure and number, there are several types of nodules: autonomous thyroid nodules, multiple nodules grouped in a poly nodular goiter, cystic nodules (filled with blood or liquid), and solid nodules. Malignancy of a nodule may be determined by thermography of contact or fine needle aspiration.
The patient is advised to see a specialist urgently if they feel a hard nodule with accelerated growth, causing difficulty swallowing and breathing, hoarseness, which is accompanied by a series of lumps in the areas of the armpit and throat. These may be symptoms of a cancer nodule.
Causes
Lack of iodine in alimentation, body’s exhaustion, stress, physical or psychical traumas are elements that cause hyperactivity in certain areas of the thyroid gland in crisis situations. These areas will turn into nodules by maintaining the hyperactivity and reducing the activity in the areas of normal glandular tissue.
Treatment
The traditional treatment techniques used to normalize the thyroid functions and reabsorb the thyroid nodules comprise: hidroalcoholic extracts of medicinal herbs with action centered upon the endocrine system, but also one for balancing and revitalizating the rest of the organs, Tibetan acupuncture and thermotherapy techniques that are meant to balance the body’s energy system and to activate certain energy centres which the curative substances of the medicinal herbs will act upon.
The specific treatment techniques of traditional medicine reactivate the hypofunctional thyroid areas. Thus, the reactivated areas will take part in the normalization of the thyroid function and reabsorption of the nodules, by a process of recovery of the hypertrophied tissues. Normalization of the thyroid activity will also regulate the metabolic processes developed by the thyroid hormones, also treating the chronic diseases caused by the respective hormonal disorders in the process.
